Five years ago, a quarter of Maiko City was destroyed by the conflict between our world and a different plane. It was the epicenter of the battle that brought supernatural beings’ existence to the eyes of the public. Streets, buildings, and abandoned vehicles are slowly being overtaken by nature. The original site of Seito Institute is here, also in ruins. The sheer amount of resources that would be required to restore this area has forced Maiko to abandon the efforts completely.

The sea, sand, sun; it’s commonplace at Maiko’s coastline, a beautiful border where earth meets the sea. There is a beach open to the public, a pier with a wide variety of entertainment, an explorable cave system, and, of course, the waters of the Sea of Japan themselves. People come here for a lot of reasons. A quiet place to themselves, a fun beach party, a walk along the shore, adventure… The list goes on.

Maiko City is a bustling metropolis and a popular tourist destination due to its rich supernatural history. Some mundane population lives here, but the vast majority of residents are supernatural in nature, be them supers, demons, angels, or something else entirely. Businesses thrive in the city center, and a spacious residential area fills the outer portion. The more one travels away from the city center, the quieter it gets.

Small country villages and isolated homesteads are sprinkled across the island. Grassy fields, waterways, and ideal camping grounds can be found before the actual wilderness. There are trails to walk or horse ride and plenty of places to fish. In the winter, the landscape changes, opening up even more possibilities for fun activities. People come in the dry season to go hiking, horse riding, fish, and camp. In the winter, there are amazing spots to sled, ski, snowboard, and ice skate.

The wilds of Maiko mainly consist of dense jungles and thick outcroppings of land. A huge ecosystem flourishes and plenty of wildlife is commonly sighted. They aren’t scared of people, generally, because of the constant encounters. Deep within the fauna of wilderness are many secret hotspots that are hidden away, undiscovered. Of the things that have been discovered, there is a creepy abandoned mansion that’s allegedly haunted and an abandoned cottage that no one can figure out who lives in.

Maiko Island
Vibrant landscapes, busy streets, and ominous ruins. Maiko Island has been around for centuries. It's just simply evolved and kept up with the times. Its city has gone from a moderately-sized town to a bustling metropolis that sits at the center of supernatural and fantastical events. The island itself is located northwest of Tokyo, on the Sea of Japan between the homeland and South Korea.
