Leera Hikaru Catalonia
White Katana. A single white-hilted katana given to her by her deceased best friend. At the end of it dangles a silver bell, but the ball that’s supposed to be inside of it is missing. A slightly demented smiley face is carved into it. Her friend’s soul seeped into the weapon, transferring from his body upon death, and so a boy’s voice can be heard echoing from the weapon every now and then. On its own, it can spark electricity as a self-defense mechanism to prevent others from being able to use it.
Leather, heels, and a bad attitude. Of average height and with voluptuous beauty, Leera carries herself with tenacity and finesse. She defaults to standoffish, but when her eyes settle upon someone, they pierce into the soul and chill it with their bitter indifference. A spiky cross-shaped scar covers the entirety of her back, while the rest of her body remains soft and faultless. Her skin is a healthy pale and eerily resembles the flawlessness of a porcelain doll, further bringing to light key features like her narrow eyes and consistent frown. She has ebon long hair; it is smooth and straight, the bottom is meticulously cut evenly always, and is usually pulled up into a thick ponytail. While off-campus, she enjoys wearing shirts with deliberate design-tearing in them, especially around the stomach and back; torn crop tops are her favorite. It’s usually accompanied by dark pants and red leather jackets.
Leera is a born leader, shining brightly and taking the initiative in everything she does. There are no half-measures with her. She has a bold fearlessness and certainly isn’t afraid to explore the unknown in life; lively, energetic, daring, and a ruthless fighter. She craves adventure, loves to travel the world, and is certainly a pioneer in her own right. Her admirable independence and freedom of expression is admirable at times, and exerted in everything she does. Achieving her goals is important to her above most other things. In that sense, she knows exactly what she wants, and has no problem going after them. Her style is brisk, edgy, and uncompromising. She also has ample confidence and self-assurance, which is the heart of her nature and is among her greatest strengths. But because of this, she comes across as being overly assertive and perhaps even self-centered. Above all, Leera has issues balancing out her patience and sensitivity with her courage and determination, and it’s perhaps her greatest lesson to be learned.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
Combat Expert. She has been fighting all her life. She is well-versed in the art of armed and unarmed combat.
Fearless. She will go after what she wants relentlessly and without much heed for whether it belongs to someone else already. She doesn’t care what kind of conflict this creates around her.
Confident. One thing that she doesn’t have is self-doubt. She is a stable individual and doesn’t ever waver on motive and her life choices.
Indifferent. She’s not very empathetic. She doesn’t take casualties too hard and moves on quickly from emotional impacts. While this is good to her, it’s rarely viewed that way by others.
Lone Wolf. She doesn’t like to cooperate with others if she can help it, convinced that they will just get in the way. Consequently, it usually means she needs to work extra hard to accomplish things meant to be done together. She thinks the extra work will make her stronger, but she can find overwhelming odds stacked against her because of her stubbornness.
Bad Temper. She can lose her patience rather easily. She isn’t outright destructive when she loses her temper, but she becomes more dangerous.
Growing up as the oldest daughter and second child of a powerful leader named Leon Catalonia, Leera always came out second best…at everything whenever her brother was involved. Because of this, since she strived to be the best in order to get recognition for her hard-earned accomplishments, there was obviously conflict between the two. It was a very complicated love/hate relationship. Leon was the feared leader of the Lost Ones, an ancient race separate from a demon, but not quite unlike them. Her mother, Helen, was the spiritual leader of their people. Leera inherited her fire ability at the delicate age of five, but struggled in the years after to control them…as she had such a nasty temper.
In her struggles at bettering herself, Leera fell into the ‘wrong’ crowd during her childhood, a group of violent children that strove for nothing but causing the agony of others. She was more in the background when it came to any ‘activities’ that took place within the group, however, choosing instead to keep her distance and remain loyal to why she had chosen to hang out with them in the first place. Challenges. During her time in the group, though, there was one particular boy that was…outlandishly friendly. He was always smiling, laughing, and playing…and he was tough, beating down anyone whom dared to talk bad about his friends. Gradually, she had become drawn to him, his strange warmth in his caring actions puzzling her, as they contrasted so much with all the other children of their tribe… Then, one particular night, he had sat beside her. He ignored her unwelcoming glower, and instead began to talk. The subjects he spoke through were of no importance, all of them quite trivial, but still he pressed onward, practically having a conversation with himself, as she at first had chosen to ignore him. Little by little, though, hour by painstaking hour, Alex had gotten Leera to open up to him, at least enough to have as close to a normal conversation as they’d ever get. It was an awkward start to the most beautiful friendship… It grew stronger with each experience together, building and building, making the both of them stronger and stronger… For once, Leera felt that she belonged, that there was possibly no other place better than by the side of her best friend, back to back against the world…
This life, sadly, quickly crumbled. In the span of one afternoon, their village had been destroyed. The two children, as well as many others, were captured and taken to a world separate from theirs, where they became ‘prisoners of war’, and were experimented on for mysterious gains. Many children died during this tragic time, unable to continue living through the agony. But Leera lacked a weak heart and endured, turning her pain into anger and letting it boil in her veins. One particular night, a fight broke out among some of the children. Alex, in the cell beside her, reached through the bars to one of the fighters, pinning their back to the cold steel and whispering, “Is this what you want to be?” Releasing him, he stepped back, and all she could do is watch as he began speaking of the forbidden. “Their entertainment? Is this what you want?!” It was the start of his planning of escape, despite that all the other children coward away from his thinking, fearing punishment for getting involved. Another particular night, Leera confided in him, admitting her trust and faith in him…and that she would help. The night after…the door to her cell opened. Light flooded into the small room, and Leera stared with wide eyes at Alex’s form standing in the middle of the warmth, grinning like a madman with the keys of the guard twirling around his finger. Gathering their prized weapons from the armory, they escaped together, out of that forsaken prison, striking down any that came across them. They reached the trees easily enough, but Alex is struck down by a long metal spear through his calf. He collapsed, reaching out and dragging Leera with him, beneath him, shielding her with his own body as the large spears rained down all around them… He smiled warmly down at her. “You have to survive this.” He had told her, and then thrust her several feet away, just out of the spears’ range. A moment later, he extended an arm, which held his previous ivory katana, splashed with his own blood, holding it out to his best friend. His eyes softened and he cast her a fond expression. “You’re never alone.” He barely managed to say it before he was impaled through the chest, and his last breath left him. Leera fled in tears, escaping that hell hole with nowhere to return or belong…
She wandered aimlessly for a day, injured and distraught. She had finally collapsed and fell into a sleep she doubted she would ever wake from. Days later, though, she did awaken…only to discover that she had been bandaged up and taken to some sort of bar. She came to learn that she had been brought there, bleeding and broken, by Shane Avisa. From that day onward, she was pretty much raised by Shane and the small group of individuals running the bar. In those years, Shane made her strong, made her tough, and, above all, gave her everything she could ever hope for, a real Family… When she became old enough, Shane asked a favor of her, proposed an uncover mission for her to take, not because of duty, but a personal request for personal gains. She agreed after it was explained to her, leaving and becoming a student at Seito Institute to watch over Kaito Avisa for his older brother… It was there that she met her first love, and when it came time for her to part for another undercover mission, this time to the ever-dangerous Makai, she was reluctant to leave her lover’s side. However, in the end she decided to go in order to search for greater power and insight.
She spent five whole years in the Makai as a human on this undercover mission. She rose in the ranks underneath the demonic Overlord Pangizor until she became the first human to be anointed a Makaiian royalty, a position solely reserved for the Mazoku race. This year, she finally found a way back to her world by initiating a contract with the Overlord. Help Malik find Isis and bring them back. She was even given a means of returning; a small round pebble with a curse mark carved in its center. She’s back, but who’s side is she really on?
